Ever since I read "A Black Moon Odyssey", a novel written by Mr. Anirban Roy, I had this insurmountable urge to photograph the moon just the way it was described in the book. Though I am a novice in photography, and that too a self-trained one, but trust me when I say this: photographing the moon is not at all an easy task!
1. patience to wait for the full-moon day. (Purnima as you call it), and clear skies.
2. A SLR or a DSLR cam.
3. lens with zoom of 55mm-155mm.
4. Tripod, or strong stable hands for fulcrum.
5. right focus, shutter speed, exposure.
6. Photoshop for cropping and enhancing.
The photograph you see above, was taken during one such eventful day, when all the factors were favourable. A steady hand is necessary to avoid motion blur, perfect focus to avoid lens blur, perfect exposure to avoid making the moon look like a silver glowing ball, and the right shutter speed to capture the dark craters of the moon. The pic you see above was taken in:
Exposure Time: 1/160 secs.
F-stop: f/10
ISO speed: ISO-200.
During a full moon day, with sparse clouds, and at around 9oclock in the evening.
The photo above has been cropped and enhanced. But in my opinion, the original pic looks much more the moon described in the book- omnious, yellowish with sweat and blood, dark with conspiracy plans. Here is the original pic:
The in-built image compressors of Google compressed the above image, killing its quality. But you got the idea. Didn't you?
I hope you found this suggestion helpful. I believe you can produce amazing pics just with any cam, including one that is in your phone. I will put some more photography tips, but those would be for your cell-phone cams, but then again, IF you are interested.

I am deeply honoured to know the author, Mr. Anirban Roy, personally. He taught us English when we were in high school. Now you know where my inspiration for writing comes from... ;)
